Food TV Food TV

ny.jpgNew Yorker television critic Emily Nussbaum takes a look at cooking shows. She calls Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen a "gleeful dystopia" in which it's "refreshing to come across participants who are not telegenic Hollywood types... instead, they're fat and sweaty, male and female, line cooks and small-time chefs, from a wide range of backgrounds—ordinary mugs hoping for their big break." Also: "Food is pain, Princess." [New Yorker]
