hasmap.jpgToday, for the first time, we turn to Pittsburgh, PA, and focus on 12 newish locales that have been garnering serious buzz. For this installment, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette dining critic Melissa McCart kindly shares with us her picks for the hottest drinking and dining her city has to offer — and what makes them so hot right now. As McCart notes, "This muscular city, with its turn of the century row houses and hulking loft spaces, nurtures a creative collective of Do-It-Yourselfers intent on transforming this former steel town into a food-focused city."

Among the map's offerings, McCart writes, are a "casual, late night spot" from a James Beard semifinalist (Butterjoint), a newcomer featuring hand-pulled noodles (Everyday Noodles) in Squirrel Hill, "a speakeasy helmed by a fleet of the city's finest bartenders" (Tender Bar & Kitchen), as well as "an anticipated transformation" for a beloved local restaurant (Cure).
